Sappanwood (Caesalpinia sappan) (Pattanga in Sanskrit) is a wood used to invigorates the blood. It is also known as Heartwood or East Indian redwood.
In Kerala, people also traditionally drink Pathimukham, a pink-colored tea with a deep, woody taste, made with Sappanwood slivers.
This medicated drink is made by boiling water with shavings of sappanwood.
Sappanwood has antibacterial and anticoagulant properties. The pale pink hue looks great when the water is poured into glasses.
Main recommended use: To purify blood and improve skin condition.
How to use: Squeeze a bit of lime into it and sweeten it with honey.
